The drivers that Amazon needs to deliver hundreds of millions of packages in NYC a year are technically "subcontractors." That means Amazon doesn't need to take any responsibility for the rampant pollution, unsafe streets, and exploitative working conditions that produce their record profits. And if workers organize to fight back, Amazon can cut ties with the shell company that employs them without any repercussions.
